What is the cornea and what does it do ?
- Cornea is the transparent eyes at the outer part of our eyeball, which helps to focus light in the retina.
- Common causes for corneal diseases include injury, foreign bodies, chemical injury, dystrophies, and degenerative disorders, ecstasies.
- Corneal injury causes pain, discharge, blurred vision, redness and light sensitivity.

- Penetrating Keratoplasty: Full thickness cornea transplant – Doctor removes the entire central portion of the cornea and replaces it with a donor corneal piece that is healthy and identical in shape.
- Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) the middle and outer layers of your cornea are removed and replaced with healthy donor corneal tissue.
- DSAEK- Desmet’s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty.
- DMEK- Desmet membrane endothelial keratoplasty.
