Eye condition in which the optic nerve is damaged due to intraocular pressure variation.Vision which is lost to glaucoma cant be recovered, but early diagnosis, careful monitoring and regular use of the treatments, further damage to vision can be prevented and most patients retain useful sight for life.
Symptoms of Glaucoma:
It is a silent disease . It tends to develop slowly over many years and affects the edges of your peripheral vision first. Many people don’t realize they have glaucoma, and it is often only picked up during routine eye test.
Symptoms:
Blurred vision or seeing rainbow coloured halos around bright light.
Occasionaly:
- Intense eye pain
- Nausea, Vomiting
- Red eye with
- headache
- Blurred vision
Types of Glaucoma:
Primary open angle: Most
common type. Angle closure Glaucoma: Can occur slowly or rapidly(acute) with a sudden painful high intraocular pressure
Secondary Glaucoma: This occurs as a result of an eye injury or secondary to some eye diseases.
Congenital Glaucoma: Usually present at birth or develops shortly after birth.
Diagnosing Glaucoma:
- Regular eye testing specially if you have a family history of it.
- Visual field test
- Central corneal thickness
- Regular I.O.P check up
Glaucoma Treatment: We offer
- Eye drops – to reduce pressure
- Laser treatment –To open up blocked or narrow angle of anterior chamber.
- Surgery: To improve drainage.
